ASK ME ANYTHING.

Talkin’ With Merlin: The Deleted Scenes.

The Skype conversation about creative failure that I had with Merlin Mann clocked in at over an hour long.

As you can imagine, there was a lot of fantastic information that didn’t make the final cut due to time/relevance to topic/etc. So, just as I did with my Adam Lisagor interview, I’ve uploaded my favorite couple of killed bits as deleted scenes.

In this first cut, Merlin and I discuss Taco Bell’s Fourthmeal and KFC’s Double Down and how they could have even made it past a brainstorming session1.

In this second cut, Merlin and I geek out over outlining, workflows and ink pens.

Items of note that were mentioned:

These failure videos have been so much fun. Hopefully Merlin will have time to do another video with me later this year. He’s super interesting to chat with. And, of course, I’m always looking for the next person to interview. Do you have someone you’d like to see me talk with?

  1. And really, haven’t we all seen something on TV or in a store and thought to ourselves “Who the hell greenlighted this venereal wart of an idea?”

the MARTINI SHAKER IS DEAD. LONG LIVE the ROCKS GLASS.

the ROCKS GLASS is one of those fancy-schmancy Tumblr sites that happens to be curated by Kansas City-based creative generalist Jeremy Fuksa.

“Creative generalist” sounds like an aggrandized term. It is. But, it rolls off the tongue much easier than Designer, Developer, Writer, Broadcaster, Filmmaker, Speaker, Musician, Photographer and Attention Whore. Plus, it looks way cooler on a business card.
