Academics, Writing and the Real World
We need a grassroots movement that demands of academics what we demand of journalists: clarity of expression in the peeling apart of complex ideas.
But Doreen, how will we know the smart people if not by their big words?
This is a perfect idea. Not just in academics, but in all things where were are conversing with one another.
Rich Silverstein mentioned in the movie Art & Copy that he kept a mantra on his door: “Brutal Simplicity.” We should always remember that ideas can be big, but how we communicate them needs to be as simple as possible so that they have the best chance of catching on.
