Ideas for my SXSW PanelPicker submission.
I’m going to submit an idea to this year’s SXSW PanelPicker to see if I might be able to make the transition to speaking at SXSW next year instead of just spectating/drinking.
I’ve got a couple of ideas that I like. I thought I’d throw them out here and see which one people liked more. The winner gets polished up and submitted. Got it? Good. Here we go:
IDEA 1: GENERALIST OR SPECIALIST? ADVANTAGES TO EACH IN A COLLABORATIVE TEAM
When working as a one-man shop, there’s no denying that there’s real value in being a generalist. The person who can competently bring a project from start to finish without relying on outside help not only can potentially save costs for their clients but can maximize the profits they see from the work they do.
However, what about a collaborative team environment? Whereas it might seem that the best strategy is to complement the team with several specialists that are deep in their respective parts of the process, there is some value to putting together teams of well-rounded generalists that can weave interchangeably and inform each other’s point of view on the given task that they’ve been assigned to.
This panel will explore the benefits of compiling teams comprised solely of generalists or specialists and will illustrate each approach with case studies.
IDEA 2: TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF YOUR ONLINE VIDEO SERIES
So, you’ve got yourself a pseudo-popular online video series. Now that the views are starting to roll in with regularity, you feel like you’re on the top of the world. But, ever the perfectionist, you’re not satisfied with sitting on your laurels. Instead, you’re looking to take your craft to the next level.
But, what do you do? The content is pretty compelling as is, but maybe there are a couple of things you can do to make the presentation of your show better. Here’s where this panel can help.
This presentation details tools and techniques to increase the production value of your online videos at a variety of budget levels. Every content creator, from webcam vloggers to HD shooters will be able to benefit from this session.
So, which do you like best?
